HOUSE REPUBLICANS PASS BILL TO TAKE AWAY LOCAL CONTROL

Updated: Apr 14, 2021

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE – April 9, House Republicans passed a bill that could result in control being taken away from local governments. After the votes, Representative Marjorie Porter (D-Hillsborough) released the following statement:

“Today, House Republicans voted to take control away from local governments. They passed HB 243, mandating a budget process for municipalities that would be better solved locally. Both the constitution and New Hampshire statute provides flexibility for elected officials to exercise. This bill strips locally elected officials from their right to act in the best interest of their communities. These constant attacks on local government threaten to undermine the unique character of New Hampshire’s cities and towns.”
