CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Currently as the House State-Federal Relations & Veterans Affairs heard testimony regarding CACR 32, a constitutional amendment that “peaceably declares independence from the United States and proceeds as a sovereign nation,” House Democratic Leader Renny Cushing (D-Hampton) releases the following statement:

“Republican lawmakers are so caught up in their disdain for America that they seem to think Granite Staters share their contempt for our country. This proposal to secede from the United States is the most unpatriotic piece of legislation I have ever seen come through the New Hampshire House. The sponsors of this bill should be ashamed to dishonor our veterans, our country, and the Constitution we all took an oath to uphold.

“By allowing Republican members to file such anti-American legislation just one year after the insurrection in our nation’s capital, the NH GOP is coddling and actively promoting extremist behavior. It is frightening to see the New Hampshire Republicans so eagerly promote and embrace anti-Americanism sentiment.”
