CONCORD, NH – Today, following this morning’s cancellation of the Executive Council meeting after it was hijacked by a right-wing mob, the Special Committee on Redistricting’s public input session and meeting of the Joint Fiscal Committee, both scheduled to be held later this week, were cancelled. Deputy House Democratic Leader and Ranking Member on the House Special Committee on Redistricting, Rep. David Cote (D-Nashua) released the following statement:
“It is disappointing that the outrageous display from right-wing extremists today caused not only the cancelling of important Executive Council business but also the public’s ability to weigh in on redistricting tomorrow night. Sadly, the GOP’s embracing of this reckless behavior has cost Granite Staters time they scheduled out of their day to share their input with the Redistricting Committee. If we had a remote option for the public as well as legislators, which Democrats have been pushing for months, then tomorrow’s meeting could be held regardless of right-wing buffoonery.”
Ranking Member on the House Finance Committee, Rep. Mary Jane Wallner (D-Concord) added:
“Hearing that the Joint Fiscal Committee has also been cancelled as a result of today’s dangerous right-wing display is disappointing knowing that everyday Republicans wait to accept $27 million in federal funds is another day the Granite State is behind in getting vaccinated and building back from the pandemic. New Hampshire has the lowest vaccination rate in New England due to the inadequacies of Governor Sununu and the GOP who have allowed conspiracies to infiltrate the process of government.”
