HOUSE REPUBLICANS IGNORE PUBLIC INPUT, GERRYMANDER HOUSE DISTRICTS

MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Today, the House of Representatives voted 186-168 to pass HB 50, re-apportioning state representative districts. Special Committee on Redistricting Member, Rep. Paul Bergeron (D-Nashua) released the following statement:

“Granite Staters gave clear direction at public input sessions in all ten counties, requesting compact House districts that keep cities together and that local representation be provided to communities with sufficient population. The districts passed by Republicans today rejects that public input, needlessly lumping cities in with other communities and stacking towns into mega-districts with no rational basis. Clearly, the Republican party’s top goal in the redistricting process was to provide themselves the best chance to achieve an artificial majority. It is a shame that community interests have been ignored in favor of blind partisanship.”
