HOUSE DEMOCRATS BEGIN PROCESS OF REPEALING SUNUNU’S CRUEL ABORTION BAN

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE –Today, the New Hampshire House voted 179-174 to pass HB 1609, a bill to add rape, incest, and fetal anomaly as exceptions to Sununu’s cruel abortion ban. Ranking Democrat on the Health, Human Services, and Elderly Affairs Committee Rep. Lucy Weber (D-Walpole) released the following statement:

“Today’s vote is a clear sign of what we all knew to be true – that Governor Sununu’s abortion ban is cruel and unnecessary. While not the full repeal Granite Staters want, the legislation passed today will allow pregnant persons facing a horrible choice in the face of rape, incest, or fetal anomalies incompatible with life, the dignity to make their own healthcare choices. Democrats believe it is important to allow everyone facing difficult reproductive healthcare decisions to act in accordance with their own conscience unimpeded by state regulation. Gov. Sununu’s abortion ban must be fully repealed, but this is an important first step.”
