CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Without fanfare last Friday, July 23rd Governor Sununu signed HB 195, adding display of a firearm as an exception to reckless conduct, legalizing threatening others with a firearm. In response to the news, House Democratic Leader Renny Cushing (D-Hampton) released the following statement
“Quietly on Friday, undoubtedly hoping to escape media attention, Gov. Sununu signed HB 195 into law, a radical Republican bill that gives free pass to domestic abusers, bad actors, and extremists to harass and threaten others with a firearm. Legislation that legalizes behavior that quickly escalates conflicts and often becomes fatal is disturbing and has no place in New Hampshire. Governor Sununu’s priorities are clear: appease the far-right at all costs, even at the safety of Granite Staters.”
