Rep Karen Ebel

Karen Ebel is the former Deputy Speaker under Speaker Steve Shurtleff and is serving her fifth term representing New London and Newbury. She is a 4-term member of House Public Works and Highways Committee, which is responsible for the state’s capital budget and 10-year transportation plan. She recently chaired the Recycling and Solid Waste Management Legislative Study Committee, focusing on the state's increasing solid waste disposal challenges. She has served on multiple legislative standing and statutory committees, including the Rules and Facilities Committees, the IT Council, State Parks Advisory Council, Exotic Weeds and Aquatic Species Committee and the Oil Fund Disbursement Board. Karen is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and Trinity College (VT). The Ossipee native returned to her home state in 1988, moving to New London, after practicing law in Washington, DC for several years as a corporate attorney. Karen has served on multiple boards, including The Nature Conservancy, the American Cancer Society and almost two decades on the New London Planning Board. She is now a member and officer of the New London Hospital board of trustees. Karen and her husband live in New London, and have two children.
