Rep Jerry Knirk

Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs

Carroll District - 3

I was raised in the midwest and moved to Boston to attend Harvard Medical School 1974, graduating with an MD in 1978. I did my residency in general surgery and then in orthopedic surgery at the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency program. I practiced as an orthopedic spine surgeon at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and at the Beth Israel Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Faulkner Hospital. In 2007, my wife and I relocated to Freedom, New Hampshire and I started a non-operative spine practice at Saco River Medical Group in Conway. My wife is a librarian at the Madison Library and we have three grown sons. At the end of 2015, I retired and soon after I embarked on a second career in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. I have served on the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee for 4 years. Currently I serve as the chair of the NH Therapeutic Cannabis Medical Oversight Board and the vice-chair of the State Health Assessment/State Health Improvement Plan Advisory Council. I have served on or chaired several committees or commissions dealing with public health issues. I have also sponsored several bills relating to health care and public health.
