HOUSE REPUBLICANS UNVEIL PLAN TO RIG CONGRESSIONAL ELECTIONS

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Today, House Republicans released their proposal to drastically redraw Congressional District maps. Deputy House Democratic Leader and Ranking Democrat on the Special Committee on Redistricting David E. Cote (D-Nashua), released the following statement:

“The Congressional maps proposed by House Republicans today should outrage Granite Staters. The proposed drastic re-drawing of Congressional districts is unprecedented and designed with the singular goal of rigging elections through partisan gerrymandering. For well over a century, New Hampshire’s Congressional districts have remained fair and largely unchanged, despite being drawn by Republican legislators every time.

This year, Republicans in the legislature are throwing out all pretenses of competitiveness, fairness, and respect for democracy in an all-out effort to rig elections. Governor Sununu must stand up to the extremists in his party and make clear that he will veto this egregious proposal. The independence of the Live Free or Die state hangs in the balance.”
