DEMOCRATIC BILL WILL PROVIDE MUCH NEEDED PROPERTY TAX RELIEF TO GRANITE STATERS

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Today, the New Hampshire House voted 182-169 to pass HB 1417, a bill to relieve the tax burden of Granite Staters by requiring the state to pay 7.5% of retirement system contributions for group I teachers and group II members of political subdivision employers in the New Hampshire Retirement System. Following the vote, Rep. Michael O’Brien (D-Nashua) released the following statement:

“Today, House Democrats reinstated the commitment of retirement reimbursement to municipal employees, firefighters, law enforcement, and teachers that the State of New Hampshire made decades ago. This Democratic bill will decrease property taxes by relieving the burden on local communities. Under the Sununu Administration and GOP legislative control, New Hampshire currently has the highest state and local property tax burden per capita in the United States. Democrats know that property tax relief is critical for Granite Staters to stay in New Hampshire to work, raise families, and ultimately retire. I am thrilled that taxpayers and dedicated municipal employees across the state will benefit from this much needed relief.”
